Hannah Bienstock's Policies
Good morning my fellow Americans. My name is Hannah Bienstock and I am running for Vice President alongside Nicole Valentino as President. I am highly qualified for this position as I was formerly the senator for New York State, and I was born and raised on Long Island in a middle class family. I am one of you. All throughout high school I had outstanding grades and was always in AP and advanced level classes. I am not afraid of a challenge, and I take all the issues Americans are facing with the utmost precision in problem solving skills. I have passion, drive, intelligence and consideration for those around me. I work well with others and I do not run away when the going gets tough.
Similar to myself we have seen these qualities in the former 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt. President Roosevelt was a hardworking and generous man who always made the best decisions for the people in order for them to prosper. Along with his mental drive, President Roosevelt had many noteworthy foreign policies that he implemented during his presidency. His most famous quote, “speak softly and carry a big stick”, was something President Roosevelt lived by and always considered when making important decisions, specifically regarding his foreign policies. He believed in turning the United States into the world power that everyone saw it as. He primarily sought to do this by taking the U.S. out of isolationism and getting us involved in aiding and assisting countries that needed it. This also includes backing up diplomatic negotiations while settling international affairs. For example, in Latin America in 1903 Roosevelt helped Panama secede from Colombia in order to construct the Panama Canal, which later led to the creation of the Monroe Doctrine. The doctrine stated that the U.S. would police the hemisphere to ensure that the countries paid their international debts so that European nations wouldn’t forcibly collect debts owed to them by Latin American nations. I strongly agree with Roosevelt and his way of handling foreign relations. My team and I believe in helping our surrounding nations because we feel that it is our duty as a powerful leading nation. My team and I hope to establish long lasting ties with other countries in order to maintain long lasting relations that will benefit us greatly now and further down the road. This will also allow us to defeat ISIS and end the war on terror with all the help we will get from neighboring nations.
As for President Roosevelt’s economic policies he was heavily involved with fighting big industries and corruption in businesses in order to benefit the common man. One of his most well known concepts was that of the Square Deal. He created this plan to improve the standard of living for the people and take more control over large corporations or trusts. When Roosevelt introduced this idea he was highly criticized, and many businesses attacked him for being a socialist. Although his thoughts and ideas were looked down upon he still decided to go through with his actions because he knew they were right for the people. I am inspired by this because I think that believing in oneself will have positive effects on those surrounding you. This is a great quality to have in a resident and a vice president. The people need someone they can trust to not back down when things get complicated and when not everyone agrees with what you believe in. I admire Roosevelt for these qualities that he possessed and I think it is important that these qualities are implemented during my vice presidency. I’m hoping to ease the taxing of the lower and middle class citizens. Pushing more taxes on the wealthier percentage of the population will be a more logical approach considering those people have enough money to pay the taxes. This will help stimulate our economy and take pressure off of the lower class Americans struggling to make ends meet.
President Roosevelt was a big believer in quality education. He is even known for creation of the elaborate library in the White House. He knew that having a great education would lead to bigger and brighter things for the future. Having a well educated America will allow for advanced developments in science, technology and medicine. Roosevelt was well educated himself, he attended Harvard University and Columbia Law School. When children and adults are well educated they are able to contribute to society and make knowledgeable decisions including voting in the upcoming election. Nicole and I would love to implement some of the educational tactics that are used in the school systems in Finland. America is falling further and further behind in the educational ranking of all the nations around the world in math, science and English. In order to become the strong world power we used to be we need to focus on the education and development of our own community. Nicole, our team and I believe in a higher educated America for the future of our children, and for the benefit of our nation as a whole.
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”. That’s what I am prepared to do as future vice president. I am not going to change this country, but simply improve it. I hope you will vote for me so that you can see how together we can improve our country for the better. Thank you.
