The United States is currently over $19 trillion dollars in national debt. As Secretary of Treasury, I will be working with Nicole and Hannah to cut back on discretionary spending. By reducing funding, we will be able to slow down debt and begin reducing it. We will, on the other hand, continue to spend enough money to run the programs Americans need. This will also allow us to provide funding during catastrophes and states of emergency, and to ensure safety in our country. We will also be working to fix our current unemployment rate and unemployment benefits, as well as fix the lack of taxation on the wealthy. Our solutions to these topics can help create a more stable economy and country.
1 &2 ) In order to decrease national debt, our administration is planning to cut back the amount spent on discretionary programs. Currently our government is spending $1.23 trillion and with our plan we can cut that down by over $214 billion. As for National Defense, we will be cutting $43 billion from the $618 billion we spend. We currently spend more than the next 7 highest spending countries combined, it is crucial that we cut the amount down to lessen the unnecessary military debt. In Education and Employment we will cut back $96 to $65 billion, Transportation we will cut $94 to $70 billion, International affairs cut back $56 to $30 billion, as well as other programs such as Space and Technology, Veterans Benefits, and Income Security. This allows us to have enough money to continue running the programs successfully while also saving billions of dollars that contributes to debt.
3) As of November, the United States unemployment rate was down to 4.6%. In order to get this rate down, the Obama Administration had taken many actions. One example of this is the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which was passed in 2009. The main goal of this act was to create and preserve jobs as well as help those most impacted by the recession of 2008. This act enabled American families to receive more than $200 billion in tax cuts and in relief payments such as unemployment insurance. In total it had created about 1.6 million jobs each year and helped rebuild crumbling infrastructure such as bridges and roads, all aiding the economy. We support Obama’s actions and would like to continue the ARRA and hopefully improve it.
4) We would like to create country wide unemployment centers. Not everyone who is unemployed receives unemployment benefits and is included in the unemployment rate. Therefore we need to create centers to help the people and families who aren’t getting proper unemployment support, along with those who do. These centers can include resources for helping find interviews, learning interview skills, receive any paperwork or documents they need to get a job. They can be funded with the money we have saved/cut from other services or volunteered if possible. As for job stimulation, we can create more job opportunities through our plan involving outsourcing, as well as continuing public work and infrastructure projects.
5) Yes, we think the wealthy should be required to pay more in taxes. At this point, many multi-millionaires and billionaires pay less, if not no taxes, than the average middle class family. This is due to the various loopholes and opportunities that favor the wealthy. Our campaign is going to keep the progressive tax system and eliminate the resources that the wealthy are able to take advantage of. Some of these include raising tax rates on capital gains and dividends so they match the tax rates on salaries and wages, capping tax deductions for the wealthiest, and setting a minimum requirement for the wealthy to pay in taxes, such as 30% no matter what, so they are not paying less than an average middle class person. This is beneficial because it can help stimulate the economy.
6) Outsourcing is a practice used by companies to reduce costs by transferring portions of work to outside suppliers and employees rather than completing it internally. Companies use outsourcing because working with international workers requires companies to pay less on labor fees and employee benefits. One feasible solution could be to make outsourcing boundaries different for each business. Large businesses and corporations who make over a certain amount of money and have the financial capability to pay for their workers and their benefits, would be prohibited from outsourcing. Start-up and smaller businesses can be able to outsource in order to save and gain money as well as grow their industry nationally.
7) Americans should trust me to fix the economy because I come from a very educated family. My mother is school educator and my father works in a bank therefore I come from a qualified background to be working with these issues and finances. I am a responsible person with past job experiences and have maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout my time in school. I have excellent time management skills and can always get the job done.
