Nicole Valentino's Policies
Good morning my fellow Americans, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Nicole Valentino and I am running for President of the United States of America in the current 2016 election. I believe I should be your next President because I am the most qualified candidate for this role in government. This is evident through my character because i possess traits including being intelligent, outgoing, respectful and caring. Also, I have accomplished many things throughout my lifetime that has prepared me to be the President of the United States. Some of these accomplishments include being one of the few 10th graders allowed to take two advanced placement classes, volunteering my time for community service, raising money for different causes, getting accepted to several colleges, making honor roll and taking several advanced courses. This experience has made me a more well rounded citizen. As an active member of my community and with the help of these deeds, I have gained skills in communication, problem solving and balancing a full schedule. I would like to be President because I think that it fits my personality very well and I feel that I would be a great leader due to my proficiency in necessary tasks for the job.
As president I would work to solve the problems in our country. Some of the main issues that are a growing problem in the United States are education, economy, and foreign policy. Primarily, there are many flaws with the American education system. We were once first and second in the world with our math, science, and reading education, but we have now dropped a significant amount. Now, we are 25th in the world in math, 17th in the world in science, and 12th in the world in reading. That is a major problem that we have dropped that low and that our students may not be gaining the best learning experience like Finland. Finland is now the “old United States” as they are now first and second in the above categories of math, science, and reading. To solve this issue, my Secretary of Education, Timothy Karp, has agreed to help adapt to policies similar to those in Finland. American education is very strict and stressful upon the lives of students and teachers. We wish to reform this by creating a more relaxed school environment. By eliminating the impact of test scores on students futures, teachers can utilize testing to check for areas in which students are lacking and improve upon them. Additionally, we plan to include more project based learning rather than teaching to the test. By doing so, students will be able to retain and understand information instead of just memorizing it all around creating a better future for our country.
To continue, the United States is in over $13 trillion of national debt. To combat this crisis, I have been working with my Secretary of Treasury, Melissa Rosenberg, in order to decrease discretionary spending. Although we plan to cut back spending, we have decided to continue spending enough money to run the discretionary programs that help the lives of many people. By reducing the funding we will be able to slow the increasing debt and ultimately hope to be able to begin its reduction, if not at least prepare for it. Furthermore, we understand the possibility of catastrophes or attacks on our country and if a situation occurs in which more funding is necessary we plan to provide it for the aid and safety of the American people.
Finally, I have been discussing with my Secretary of State, Matthew Molloy, ways in which we should conduct our foreign policies. We plan to continue air strikes and provide aid to Syria and Afghanistan, however we have decided to keep American troops out of the war to protect the lives of soldiers and the safety of the country. By increasing our influence, ISIS may decide to attack us and put innocent lives at risk. Providing aid includes: sending medical supplies, volunteer nurses and accepting more Syrian refugees. With this help, the fight will not die and victory may be achieved without unnecessary government spending for more troops to be sent. We will continue to support their military efforts of stabilization. Additionally, we plan to keep some troops in Afghanistan until they are fully prepared to take on the battle. This is so that ISIS can't take it over and gain access to more advanced weaponry and can't gain more territory or supporters. To prevent future terror attacks from occurring in the United States, we plan to increase security procedures in public places. For example, airport security has set checkpoints for people to pass through. We believe these checkpoints may be annoying, however they ensure the safety of the people.
Moreover, due to my qualifications as well as my characteristics, I believe with the help of my cabinet I can work to improve conditions in the United States for all of the people. As Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “One thing is sure. We have to do something. We have to do the best we know how at the moment... If it doesn't turn out right, we can modify it as we go along.” Therefore, I plan to continue trying to problem solve through our issues to find a solution that best fits the American people and guarantees our progression into a better future.
